Who doesn't wish for a small little cottage in the middle of the country to escape to at weekends? Then it's bye-bye work stress and hello relaxation! Even if your getaway doesn't lie far beyond the reaches of the everyday wind and grind, you can still achieve the same kind of idyllic country life in your home by following a few simple styling procedures.
The idea of the cottage-style has become quite a trend in architectural design. Inspired by the rustic or vintage look, the cottage style is conquering interiors around the world, and we have a special one to show you today. The architects at Tommaso Bettini Architetto really did a number with this project. Shabby chic decor and a lovely light and airy atmosphere combine without fault to create one of the most comfortable and modest homes we've seen yet.
Clear and simple colours are the hallmark of the cottage style. Instead of a bright, pure white, the entire apartment was painted rather a broken or off-white tone. This has an effect on the ambience as it softens the feel of the interior. The furniture here also matches the wall colour and with a simple design, they can inconspicuously sit in the background and surprise you with ornate detail as you get closer. The wooden beams we see above the dining room table are also characteristic cottage styling features.
When designing this apartment, our experts came up with something special: a kind of mini-loft has been set up above the dining room. A ladder leads directly from the living room into the second, upper living area. Comfortable furniture invites you to linger and offers good overnight accommodation for guests.
Pleasant fabrics, soft cushions, and plenty of space to relax are the basic building blocks of any well-outfitted cottage home, and this living room has it all.
Subtle wall decoration underlines the quiet character of the interior and fresh flowers bring about a more rural touch and lighten up the ambience.
Straight form the living room, we enter the kitchen. This room also convinces with puristic yet lovable details.
An old wooden pepper mill, old-fashioned scales, and a subtle checkered pattern on the walls give the kitchen an intriguing vintage charm. And we just love the way these designers used wall space for hanging both decorative plants and mugs.
Since wood is the most popular material in all rural interior design styles, it only makes sense that we should find old wooden furniture here.
The dark wooden desk and chair mark the work area in the bedroom and provide a wonderful contrast to the otherwise bright décor. Behind the desk, we have storage space integrated into the wall in the form of a bookshelf.
In the bathroom of the apartment, we also find a mix of bright colours, dark wood, and even the addition of some lighter coloured wicker. This bathroom captures the retro charm of the entire apartment–the vintage tiles and outfitting give us that old-school glamour, while things like the new bidet and modern rainfall shower remind us that we are still in the 21st century.
