Have you been hankering after a new terrace in your garden for a while? Well, now is the time to get one sorted out, as spring is just around the corner, which means sunnier days, warmer weather and more reasons to be outside! We've found a terrific terrace project that we think will be the final push you need to get in touch with your carpenter, as not only does it look amazing, it is also an unusual shape, which should give those of you with awkward plots of land plenty of encouragement! Just think; a few days of hard graft could mean a stunning alfresco dining spot that you can enjoy all summer long. Now doesn't that sound like a worthwhile investment?

Laying the supports.

We wanted to show you the full process of building a terrace, so here is step one! Laying appropriate supports for your finished decking to be attached to is key and you need to be sure that the surface is level and secure. A gravel base here means that nothing will shift around and hardwood struts are the perfect supports.

Adding the decking.

With a proper support foundation in place, you can get to adding your decking panels, but don't be too concerned about size, shape and neat edges yet. Those are things you can sort later, with a track saw! Just be sure that your directional laying looks right and works with the supports laid and you'll be fine. What's interesting here, is that there are large stones that need to be accounted for! What a tricky little snag!

Tackling the shape.

With all the boards laid, you can see how much easier it is to shape the sides and a track saw makes such light work of it! We are really liking the multi-level design here and with some simple decking pieces inserted, the steps will be as seamless as the rest of the platform.

Amazing curves!

This is what we were talking about in terms of unusual plots of land guys! If you haven't got space for a large, square terrace, just start thinking outside the box and within your permitted area! Some curves will really make your terrace something to look at and just wait until you see how this looks with some stain!

Protect the work!

Please, please, PLEASE never forget to have your new terrace properly sealed! A few rainy days and a little laziness in terms of steam cleaning it will quickly result in a slimy, rotten terrace, so grab the stain and start applying! It's not just practical, it actually really finishes the area beautifully as well.

Admire your new addition.

Just look at this! What was a wasted little patch of garden has become the main event! Rich in colour, fabulously shaped and so practical, this terrace was the ultimate finishing touch to a charming outdoor space and we are now totally sold on the idea of similar similar for our own gardens!
