You may be under the impression that wallpaper is severely outdated when it comes to interior design. So, here comes homify, where we always approach any design task (from choosing out countertop materials for kitchens to styling up entryways) from a different angle and with some out-of-the-box thinking.

Today we focus on the most private, tranquil space in any home: the bedroom. And if you’ve been searching for versatile, less-expensive ways to give your sleeping space a touch of style, look no further than these bedroom wallpaper ideas.

In continuing with what we said earlier about wallpaper being outdated – of course you don’t have to look very far to come across drab, creepy and less-than-ideal designs, but that doesn’t mean that wallpaper is out of trend. In fact, modern wallpaper is nothing like the nightmare-to-hang, impossible-to-remove paper you might remember from years gone by. It’s back in a big way, coating up every space from bedroom and hallway to living room and bathroom – yes, even rooms privy to wetness and moisture can now flaunt some striking style via wallpaper.

But back to the task at hand: unique bedroom wallpaper ideas for you to consider…

1. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Use your creativity

First of all, remember that the only limit when it comes to bedroom wallpaper ideas is your imagination. Just because it’s meant to style up a wall doesn’t mean you can’t try out something… different.

How about using wallpaper to add colour and character to closet doors? Or a bland corner in your bedroom? Or your headboard or even furniture pieces?

2. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Accent walls

We all know how paint can create astonishing accent walls, but have you considered wallpaper? Most often, the wall at the head of the bed is chosen for a bedroom’s focal point, but who says you can’t spotlight a second wall as well? Or ignore that wall altogether and style up another one instead?

homify hint: Got a small bedroom? Then choose wallpaper with a limited palette, like the simple thunderstorm blues shown here. If your room is dark, pick wallpaper with a dark background – yes, it’s very unorthodox, but it will definitely add an element of interest (perhaps even a big dose of elegance) to your bedroom. Have fun with your accent wall and choose a wallpaper that really adds a spark to the room.

3. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Create contrast

If you want your bedroom to flaunt a bold style, then striking wallpaper is your answer. Use a gorgeous design to create dramatic contrast against your headboard and other furnishings.

We recommend opting for a big, bold pattern that loves attention. On the other hand, you could also pick wallpaper with a bright or deep colour. Just don’t do both to keep the look under control.

4. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Combine patterns

Nobody is forcing you to settle on just one wallpaper for your bedroom. So, why not try something different by combining two different patterns? Or let your wallpaper pattern complement the motifs of your linen and/or décor, as shown in our example?

It’s really not hard to mix patterns, but just remember to choose wallpapers with complementary colours and designs. The best results are achieved when the two patterns are on different scales (one being larger than the other), but they share a colour palette, or, at the very least, match two or more hues.

5. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Introduce texture

Ingenious creators have spoiled us with textured wallpaper – a fantastic option when you want to flaunt a raw, delicious look (such as a brick wall, for example) in a space, yet don’t have the budget for a full-on wall renovation.

This is especially helpful if your bedroom’s palette is limited, ensuring plenty of texture to keep the space interesting.

Some well-known textures for wallpapers include grass cloth, nubby handmade paper, bark-like textures and even feathers.

6. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Murals

How about adding a fun mural to your child’s bedroom wall – or your own? Yes, you could hire a professional painter for the job, but you could also scope out the wide variety of wallpaper murals on the market and get it done yourself.

From full-scale murals that cover an entire wall (like a fabulous nature scene) to smaller, fanciful designs, there’s definitely a wallpaper mural for every theme you (and your child) can imagine.

7. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Frame it

Know what else could ensure an eye-catching touch to that accent wall? Adding a frame around the wallpaper to create the illusion of oversized artwork!

Simply hang a stretch of your chosen wallpaper, then frame it with some decorative moulding. Or even wallpaper a section of the wall to create a fake headboard – what a fun project you could do over the weekend!

8. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Wallpaper tile

To create a fun and unique accent wall, use wallpaper tiles or squares arranged in different sections. Choose a pattern (i.e. zebra stripes, damask, awning stripes… ) and apply it in same-size blocks (for instance, 30 x 30cm) for some striking pizzazz.

This is an especially neat idea for a teenager’s bedroom to create a look that’s unique and different.

After all, it’s easier to work with smaller squares than large sheets of wallpaper.

9. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Create beautiful borders

It might not be the best idea for an adult’s bedroom, but could ensure a playful touch for a nursery or child’s room. This is a very easy way to spruce up the walls and match a decorating theme without too much effort and costs.

Pick something like your child’s favourite animal, Disney character or hobby. And once they outgrow that theme, it’s easy enough to remove the border instead of an entire wall of wallpaper.

10. Bedroom wallpaper ideas: Continue a pattern

How about using your wallpaper for a touch of traditional by continuing its pattern on window treatments and/or scatter cushions? Don’t worry if those patterns aren’t 100% identical – as long as they’re similar in design and colour.

When opting for this idea, just be sure to choose a pattern with a very limited palette in order not to overthrow the entire room or make it look too busy.
