The 21st century has brought with it a wealth of construction- and designing options to enhance our living spaces. Yet with global warming a serious issue, it has become imperative that we focus on ideas that also help to save our planet. And that is precisely the driving factor of Go4cork

Go4cork helps to give our houses and other structures visual character and practicality without compromising the environment. And it’s all thanks to one simple natural material: cork. With its eye-catching style and exceptional texture, cork is fast becoming one of the most creative materials thanks to its ability to help with interior insulation, reduced noise levels, etc.

Let’s see how cork changes the way we use and appreciate flooring…

Cork under the floor surfaces

Professionals like Interior Designers will agree that there’s a lot to be said for cork’s soft texture, earthy colours, and stimulating pattern. But Go4cork is showing us that cork can also help us enjoy quieter, more pleasing spaces in our homes.

That’s thanks to cork lowering the noise levels created by footsteps while also ensuring a softer underfoot feeling. And don’t forget that the cork underlay contributes to a longer life for your flooring surfaces.

Out of all the available options, why cork?

• When it comes to thermal insulation and acoustic isolation, cork is just about perfect. While this natural material has a warm feeling, it does not permeate or absorb body heat. Plus, it presents a low conductivity to heat and noise.

• Natural cork helps with the stabilisation of temperature and humidity. Hence, its positive impact on the micro-climate and acoustic levels of a room.

• Cork is one of the most fire-resistant materials on earth.

• About 90% of cork is volume. And approximately 50% is air (it even weighs about five times less than water). And thanks to its impermeable properties, it is quite unsinkable.

• Thanks to its structure, cork is quite resistant to damage, meaning it can withstand more abrasion than other underlay materials.

Installation that’s quick and easy

The real clincher is that while cork is one of our planet’s most lightweight materials, it’s also one of the toughest. But what other factor aids in this natural material’s popularity in modern-day homes and floors? Its very easy installation method!

And don’t forget that cork is 100% recyclable, enhancing its status as one of the “greenest” building materials in the 21st century.

Perfect sound control

But why is cork such a perfect solution for floor underlay? The fact that it contains millions of air-filled pockets in every cubic millimetre, aiding in its cushioning effect. Thus, when cork is put under pressure, all those little air-filled bubbles compress, and then retain their shape as soon as the pressure is gone.

It is these same factors that make cork such a great surface flooring material that increase its status as an impressive sound insulator. Approximately 6mm of cork can lower noise levels by about 10 decibels. Additionally, cork underlay also helps to soak up vibrations and act as a dampness blockade.

Thus, cork might not be the best option for a floor’s top surface, yet it works perfectly as an underlay with wooden floors, concrete tiles, linoleum, vinyl, and just about any other option.

So many different options for your floors

Aiding in versatility (and customer satisfaction) is the fact that there are various choices. Cork can either consist of just cork agglomerate, or be made up of other recycled materials like PU (polyurethane), recycled rubber or EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer).

Go4cork even presents some underlayment options that have a pre-attached vapour obstruction.

Let’s take a look at some pictures that show us how cork can be used as floor underlays for houses and offices.
