Today we are looking at a list of five apartments that have features or spaces that anyone working with less than 70m2 should take a peek at.

This list is important because most of the world lives in smaller spaces – especially urban folks. But a small space does not mean sacrificing on things that make a home homey, like balance, comfort, cleanliness and interior aesthetic character that reflects one's unique tastes. We hope that some of these spots and ideas will provide readers with enthusiasm to revamp their own compact living places. Let's take a look!

Tying together space

If you are lucky enough to have a wall that divides the space into two rooms, then maximise this by creating two distinct living spaces which are unified by a common trait, like a colour or style of art. Doing this can be as simple as buying two or four similar paintings, and placing them in both rooms.

In this room, bright lime green and walnut wooden furnishings tie both rooms together, making for an altogether congenial atmosphere both the sleeping and living/cooking areas.

Bed as design

Here we have a studio apartment that has been done by one of the experts at small space living, Sofie Apartments, who have several examples of designs in small flats. One of the takeaways of this photo is that, believe it or not, making your bed the central point of your small apartment makes it feel super homey and comfortable, though you will probably have to keep some chairs for guests tucked away somewhere.

In this apartment, the rest of the interior design takes its cue from the large, luxurious bed: light pinks and whites that really bestow a sparkle upon a small space.

Employing light

The surest way to combat the feeling of being cramped that can happen in a smaller apartment is to bring the great expanse of the outside, inside. This means using what natural light you have coming into your small apartment, because this is how you'll make it feel bigger.

As seen in this example of a beautifully designed little apartment in Gdansk, the use of light colours accented here and there by darker splashes of colour does wonders to reflect the daytime sunlight all around the area.

Keeping it clean

Party to every tiny apartment is the tiny bathroom – a room far too important to ignore, which doesn't have to feel small just because it is. Again, the truest colour scheme for enlarging a space is a light one--especially in the bathroom, where lights and whites are more than likely going to be replacing natural light from a window.

Using clear glass for your shower, as seen in this photo, opens the room up even more but also makes things feel altogether tidier – a must for a small bathroom!

Reducing clutter

While everyone loves furniture, too many furnishings in a small flat can just make the space feel confined and crowded. As seen in this little studio, the designers have smartly gotten rid of clutter by reducing both the amount of furniture pieces but also by choosing leaner furniture designs which don't overtake the room.

We can see that, in doing this, the light from the windows is allowed to fill the room, instead of being barred by large furnishings. Furthermore, the lack of furniture shifts the focus onto the handsome materials of the flat--the fine woods and window casings--making it a truly prepossessing little spot for living.

By now, hopefully, you have realised that with a little thought, fun-size flats are easily made homey and chic. For a look at another cool apartment coming in at 70m2, we recommend the Casa per vacanze a Chiessi.
