Part of the brief from the client stipulated a home free of unnecessary clutter. This was in order to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a calming retreat complemented by the idyllic surroundings – which is enhanced even more thanks to the fact that the house is located atop a sloping landscape.
In Aidan’s own words: “The beauty of a considered minimalist approach is that it’s contradictory to what people tend to think an interior designer does. It’s an exercise in discipline to design with a minimalist mindset, the natural tendency is to overcompensate and to add more to a space, as opposed to taking away from it”.
An immaculate exterior view is one thing to enjoy, but top-notch interiors is another. Fortunately, Aidan and his team dedicated themselves to pristine results, evidenced by the layered look of the exterior façade.
It may be majestic in size, yet the house exudes a homely and welcoming ambience made all the more remarkable by its textured look, seen particularly in the dining room – the perfect marriage between opulence and minimalism.
The sublime multi-faceted approach to textures works exquisitely well in the dining room. Thus, it made perfect sense to repeat this look in the main suite with its layered neutral tints, materials and textures.
In fact, the main bedroom turned out to be one of Aidan’s favourite spaces in the entire house. Here is where smooth surfaces meet up with rough textures to present an abundance of detail and character. Raw granite floors, brass tables, and a king-size bed made from solid wood co-exist in perfect harmony in here, brought together by a calming colour palette of soft creams, stone greys, and light mochas.
The minimalist style continues beautifully into the en-suite bathroom, yet a touch of glamour is ensured via the golden trimmings and oversized wall tiles - not to mention the wooden floors and claw-foot tub.
As far as world-class views go, the house's pool and entertainment deck certainly provides heaps of inspiration for exterior socialising and relaxation. Notice the glass balustrades enhancing the minimalist style without diminishing the quality of the view.
The guest bedroom: a different design than the main bedroom's, yet no less appealing in terms of furnishings, decor and mesmerising landscape views.
